“I wanted to make films that represented my taste. It’s as simple as that.”  By early 2011, Melia had written three screenplays, and was ready to start production on her debut film, a thirty-minute short project, entitled “LOVE IN ABSENTIA”.  “What I loved about making this first film is that it really gave me a chance to spread my wings and break out of the mold of actress or writer.  I was able to fully give voice to my imagination for once, not just bring to life other people’s ideas. It was freeing.”  The film took eleven days to shoot over the course of a month an half.  Melia’s crew consisted of 10 cast and 10 crew. “It was the perfect balance, really. And I like a small crew, you can move more quickly.” She is planning on taking “LOVE IN ABSENTIA” to film festivals worldwide over the course of 2014. “I hope to get exposure, make connections and drum up some funding for my next project.”
